GEO for E-commerce: How to Get AI to Recommend Your Online Store

“In e-commerce, an AI recommendation converts directly into a sale: Product schema, structured reviews and editorial category content are what put your store inside the answer.” — José Felipe Bello, founder of Bello GEO

When someone asks ChatGPT for "the best online store for Colombian clothing" or asks Perplexity "where to buy specialty coffee," the AI recommends the stores it trusts most. E-commerce is one of the sectors with the biggest GEO upside, because AI recommendations convert directly into sales.

Product schema: every product visible to the AI

Every product in your store should carry Product schema with name, description, price, availability, brand and images. That lets the AI answer questions like "how much does [your product] cost?" or "where can I buy [category] in Colombia?"

Structured reviews

Reviews with AggregateRating schema are gold for GEO. When the AI sees "4.8 stars from 150 reviews," that is a trust signal that makes it far more willing to recommend your product over one with no ratings.

Category content

Category pages should not be bare product lists. Every category needs editorial content: buying guides, comparisons, usage tips. That turns your store from a catalog into a source of expertise the AI wants to cite.

A product blog

Articles like "how to choose [your product]," "size guide" or "material comparison" — educational content that positions your store as an authority. The AI uses this content to back up its recommendations.

Where to start

At Bello GEO we measure overall AI visibility with the proprietary Bello GEO Visibility Index, a 0–100 metric across 8 dimensions: technical infrastructure, schema markup, content citability, E-E-A-T, AI-crawler access, cross-platform presence, topical depth and brand authority. It is our own methodology — not an industry standard or third-party endorsed metric — and AI citations are never guaranteed; the Index measures the conditions that make them more likely. Our founding case, Laboratorio del Dolor in Ibagué, Colombia, moved from 51 to 89 in six weeks of implementation (full disclosure: Bello GEO's founder is also co-founder and CTO of that clinic).
