GEO for Hotels and Tourism: How AI Decides Where Your Guests Stay

“Travelers ask AI where to stay before they ever open a booking site: a hotel optimized only for Spanish is invisible to the travelers who ask in English — and vice versa.” — José Felipe Bello, founder of Bello GEO

"Best hotel in Cartagena," "where to stay in Medellín," "boutique hotel near the beach in Santa Marta" — these are questions millions of travelers ask ChatGPT and Perplexity before booking. If your hotel is not optimized for AI, Booking.com and TripAdvisor show up in your place.

LodgingBusiness schema

The LodgingBusiness schema type covers name, star rating, amenities, price range, check-in/check-out and lodging type. It lets the AI answer precisely when a traveler asks for a specific kind of hotel.

Destination content

Your website should not be just a room catalog. You need content about the destination itself: what to do, where to eat, how to get there, the best season to visit. That content builds local authority and gets the AI citing you as a source for the destination — not only for lodging.

Reviews and online reputation

AI weighs reviews heavily. AggregateRating schema with real data from Google, Booking and TripAdvisor tells the AI "this hotel has 4.7 from 230 reviews." Without it, the AI cannot weigh your quality against the competition.

The bilingual opportunity

Hotels serving international travelers need content in Spanish and English at minimum. Travelers ask AI in their native language — if your content exists only in Spanish, you are invisible to the large share of travelers who ask in English, and the reverse holds too.

Where to start

At Bello GEO we measure overall AI visibility with the proprietary Bello GEO Visibility Index, a 0–100 metric across 8 dimensions: technical infrastructure, schema markup, content citability, E-E-A-T, AI-crawler access, cross-platform presence, topical depth and brand authority. It is our own methodology — not an industry standard or third-party endorsed metric — and AI citations are never guaranteed; the Index measures the conditions that make them more likely. Our founding case, Laboratorio del Dolor in Ibagué, Colombia, moved from 51 to 89 in six weeks of implementation (full disclosure: Bello GEO's founder is also co-founder and CTO of that clinic).
