Google Business Profile and GEO: The Connection That Multiplies Your Visibility

“If your website says one thing and your Google Business Profile says another, the AI doubts both: consistency across web, GBP and directories is the foundation of AI trust.” — José Felipe Bello, founder of Bello GEO

Your Google Business Profile (GBP, formerly Google My Business) is not just for showing up on Google Maps. It is one of the main sources AI engines consult to verify information about your business. A well-optimized GBP multiplies your visibility on Google and in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews alike.

AI engines triangulate information across multiple sources. If your website says one thing and your Google Business Profile says another, the AI doubts both. Consistency across website + GBP + directories is the foundation of AI trust.

Right category = right visibility

Your GBP primary category determines which searches you appear for. "Marketing consultant" and "Digital marketing agency" receive different queries. Choose the category that best describes what your customers search for — not what you think you are.

Services with prices

Google and AI engines read the services section of your GBP. Adding each service with a description and price lets the AI answer "how much does [your business] charge for [service]?" directly from your profile.

Photos the AI actually uses

Your GBP photos appear in AI results and on Maps. Professional photos of your team, workspace, products and services in action convey professionalism. Quantity is a signal too: businesses with 20+ photos come across as more established.

Reviews: fuel for the AI

AI reads and analyzes your Google reviews. More reviews mean more data to evaluate your quality. Responding to every review shows the business is active — and negative reviews answered professionally are a better signal than positive reviews left without a response.

Regular posts

Google Business Profile posts signal activity. A business that publishes weekly reads as more active and trustworthy than one that has not posted in months. These posts are also indexed by Google and can be cited by AI.

Where GBP fits in the bigger GEO picture

At Bello GEO we measure overall AI visibility with the proprietary Bello GEO Visibility Index, a 0–100 metric across 8 dimensions: technical infrastructure, schema markup, content citability, E-E-A-T, AI-crawler access, cross-platform presence, topical depth and brand authority. It is our own methodology — not an industry standard or third-party endorsed metric — and AI citations are never guaranteed; the Index measures the conditions that make them more likely. Our founding case, Laboratorio del Dolor in Ibagué, Colombia, moved from 51 to 89 in six weeks of implementation (full disclosure: Bello GEO's founder is also co-founder and CTO of that clinic).
